Perola arrives....yeah!

You know the guys from Perola are here to stay when they show up with their little custom microwave box (you know... for lunches... and hopefully dinners!).  We've got them here until they have the vanities, laundry and kitchen installed.  Nice!

Closets!

Dermot's installer, Mike, arrived to install the closets today.  I took a series of pictures to show the access provided to the built-ins with the Komandor doors...very nice!

Forming the planters

Thom has spent a good amount of time making sure the forms are perfect for the front planters.  We now wait for a good weather window to pour.

Glass and landscaping

Two late finish trades started today.... Rand installed the glass, while Thom was back to start the landscaping work in the front.

Nice enough to paint outside

Mick was back outside - this time pre-painting the 4" T&G pine boards for the undersides of the two porches.  He has also removed all of the paper and Dave has been fastidiously testing out the central vac (pssst Dave...more dust bunnies to come!)

Nawkaw Stone and brick staining

Nawkaw has come and gone and they've left an amazing piece of work on the exterior.  The brick and stone has been transformed to a consistent grey that really brings out the stonecutter colour on the garage doors and windows.  What a great way to update older masonry; the product covers great, and because it allows the masonry to breath, it doesn't deteriorate like paint - thus the 20 year warranty on their work.

Komandor Sliding Doors

Dave and Karen are using Komandor doors throughout instead of typical closet framing and interior doors.  I find this approach is a much more modern and functional way to approach closets; and the range of door treatments they have are great.

The wall

Fred really knocked it out of the park on the fireplace wall.  I love these concrete panels - looks fantastic.

Appliances

The leaning tower of Pisa (as Dave likes to call the fridge that appears to be very tippy) and friends arrived today...now where the hell is the kitchen?

Hodge podge day!

Luckily, Mick likes the electrician and plumber, or I'm not sure he would allow them in the house today.  Tony's crew was working on showers, toilets and the hot water heater; Kevin was working on pot lights and plugs and Mick did the first coat of varathane on the stairs that were stained black on Friday - beautiful!

Stair stain selection

Mick has prepared 4 or 5 stain samples and we've narrowed it down to a very dark black stain - it's going to look fantastic.

The windows are now done in the house - Mick used a special gel coating that he painted on the edges of the windows that allow him to spray the entire frame then pull the gel and paint right off for a nice clean finish.

Trim and door painting continues

While Thom's forming lumber arrived (the weather will determine when we can get started on the exterior planter walls), Mick and his trusty helpers keep going on the trim and doors inside.

Busy day

Another busy day at the house.  Tom finished off the stone, with the exception of a few patches; George's guys finished the central vac and the cool camera setup; and Mick was back after Adriano finished up to begin the interior trim painting.

Stone and tech

Thom has started patching up the stone in the front... it's going to look as good as old very soon!

Meanwhile, AIM Security was in to start the tech finishing tasks.

Boxed windows

The box windows are being...boxed.  We're adding a layer of rigid foam and low expansion foam in addition to the OBC requirement just to give a little stability to the window and eliminate voids between the jamb and the insulated framing around the window.

Adriano sets up

My trim carpenter, Adriano (AKA Oscar.... long story) has brought his crew and started the big job of getting the boxed windows and extended jambs throughout the house put in.  He's got quite a bit of work to do for a house of this size.

Tile Progress

Freddy is in the house, thus the tile is progressing.  He should have the majority of the work done this week and return later for the fireplace.

Beautiful

I'm loving the look of this main room even more with a few coats of paint!

Inside and Happy!

As the weather turns a little colder (but really, not that much!), Mick has started full speed on the inside of the house.

Priming....outside?!?!

Fantastic winter (winter??) weather allowed Mick to get all of the priming done outside today.  Crazy!

Trim and Doors Arrive

The single groove baseboards and casing arrived today from Victoria Strong (lol... the name always reminds me of when a finish carpenter of mine had to pick up some extra material, and called me from Sherway Gardens to discover that google had brought him to Victoria's Secrets).

The doors, though not well captured here, will be a great complement to the trim - with 4 horizontal grooves and once vertical groove along one side.
